This past floral weekend was the absolute best. It was filled with some floral freelancing with one of the best bridal florists in Indy, A Bridal’s choice. Interesting fact, I first met Mrs. Deborah back in 2014 at a time when floristry was not even a figment of my imagination. We belonged to the same church. I had no idea that she was a florist until four years ago. I ran into her at Art in Bloom this year and reconnected. So, this past weekend I got a chance to delve elbow deep into wedding flowers. Between her and her mother whom I had the pleasure of meeting this weekend, there is over 60 years of floristry experience. What an absolute treasure chest of floral knowledge and experience. It was an absolute honor and pleasure working alongside them.
After that, I spent some time at Earl Grey Fields flower farm. This flower farm is located in Pendleton, IN and is one of my favorite places to visit. Colorful, romantic, and unique flowers are an integral part of my design aesthetic and patronizing a flower farm allows me to do that. I was on the hunt for some zinnias, and I was delighted to pick some amazing Floret Zinnias. Who knew I was even a zinnia person until now. The colors are so intriguing to me and there is just something heartwarming about handpicking the locally grown flowers that I include in my floral arrangements.
Sunday drew my weekend to a close. After weekend worship, I decided to take a leisurely walk on the Broad Ripple Monon trail. I just love that trail. It’s the perfect place to frolic an afternoon away. Couple that with some ice cream from Brics and you have an afternoon or evening well spent, (because one cannot be in Broad Ripple and not have Brics) Being in nature and just getting a chance to just be is a time that I relish and treasure. I also indulged in some street photography which is my other great love before I met floristry. Unfortunately, I don’t get to indulge in street photography as much as I would like to anymore, I just don’t have the time. However, when I do, I always enjoy it. I find that it sparks my creative juices. It was amazing to get a chance to interact with strangers and exercise my photography muscles.
And finally, a shout out to my camera-shy model also known to me as Mom. She is usually an unwilling participant in my modelling endeavors which is interesting to me as she was a whole entire model in her younger years. Can’t you tell, just look at those cheekbones. Anyway, I digress.
She was so joyful and exuberant that I had no choice but to capture her alongside my Floret treasures. Shhh don’t tell her she is on the internet. She would be mortified.
All in all, a great flower weekend. Looking forward to the next flower weekend.
